A Christmas Poem

Inner Projection
This is for the five million people of "mass layoffs" looking for rent and food to eat.
This is even for Wall St. slipping TARP money into pockets, again ignoring that struggle down on Main St.
This is for the bottle picker working my street the eve of trash-pickup day putting her wares in a used baby carriage.
This is for the woman scouring trashed retreads hoping to make one work so she can get to a part-time job that barely pays the bills.
This is even for the execs at Wells Fargo yet to pay back their TARP loan.
This is for the father who hasn't worked in over a year, pistol poised, the insurance money he could leave behind soon "The only option."
This is for the world's 3 billion making less than $3 a day.
This is for the single mom running through the woods of some country in Asia, shoeless, hungry child in hand. All her men dead, suspects, innocents, even her little man.
This is for the young woman on the way to school who just saw her friend on the side of the road, fingers gone, for she had decided to wear nail polish this hot day somewhere in the Middle East.
This is for the store owner in Mexico who pays half his money to the man who may take his shop; they already took his life, his wife. His children now always first, foremost in mind.
This is even for the Americans buying shoes, socks, ties, and toys for children who have drawers and closets overflowing with so much already.
Here's to you, God's child. Here's to you, His lovely ones. Here's to all God's children.
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas to you. May all your seasons be bright.

More commentsTo weep for humanity as a whole, requires the endless capaciousness of a boundless soul - which you appear to have. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.Ella, thanks for the kind words. For whatever reason, I can't ignore the suffering masses. Should any of us? Peace to you and yours.
Thank you, Jeff.You're welcome, Carolyn.
Yes Jeff, there are many people in this country and countries abroad who have money they don't know what to do with. I wish the Christmas spirit would touch them in particular and they would help those unfortunate souls throughout the world...good article, let's hope your message gets through. Merry ChristmasYes, I think of Bill Gates and the 40-plus billion he is using in a healthy way. I wish more with most would think along those lines. Unfortunately, great freedom has brought profit and greater self-indulgence. May we desire to reach out to others more this season and every season.
Thanks Jeff - a focus we need and like the non-rhyme too although many are always trying me to do rhyming ones (I do some) but love to do non-rhyming ones best. MarijoMarijo, my major in college, BS and MA, was creative writing verse. We were told by the professors there that rhyming was too easy and lead one down paths of forced meaning. Thanks for reading.Great things must have changed - I wrote a poem about (or to) my senior English teacher about iambs and rhyming schemes... don't think I ever gave it to her though... Marijo
Thanks so much for sharing this timely reminder of what this holiday is really about. I am so thankful for what I have and more thankful for knowing I don't need what I don't have. Merry Christmas to you and yours.Funny that last night there was an author on Craig Ferguson who wrote a journalistic book following three families for three Christmasses. He discoverd that we, as Americans in general, BS ourselves during the holiday season into being happy. And that the culture doesn't allow one to be pesimistic this time of year. Interesting that in doing so we avoid the real meaning of Christ--mass, a giving of our hearts in sorrow to those most in need. I went to my wife's Christmass party last night for the company she distributes for and there were a lot of very rich people there getting drunk and being self-congratulatory. I had to leave early because of the bordom and self-indulgence. Kind of made me ill. Let us keep the TRUE meaning of Christmas this year and all year around--and all years to come. Thanks for writing, Mike.
Thanks for sharing that Paul. Simple poem yet very informative and the message within that poem is very touchy.May you have a wonderful Christmas.Kind regards,PeterThanks Peter.
Nothing one can add, you said it all, and you said it well. Merry Christmas to you and your family Jeff. Thanks, Brianna. Same to you and yours.
Very nice Jeff. For a little cheer in your day, read my article, "How much difference can one person make." Since I wrote that, the 'toy drive' has expanded to provide heat assistence too, and more plans for other types of help throughout the year.Got plenty of joy, but my mission is to pass it on to those without. Peace to you and yours. May Christ be with you during the celebration of His birth and may His spirit be with you always. Peace!
I will not attempt to add to your powerful Christmas anthem. This was great and I was blessed.Blessings to you and yours Jeff this Christmas. Thanks Ed. God bless you and yours. And may the light and life of Christ be with you this season and always. Peace!
Jeff,Well said. I am saddened to see how little of 'Christ' is left in Christmas and how much 'taking' the season brings.Thank you,NancyHow True, Nancy. Thanks for reading / writing. Peace!
